Within the scope of this panel, we focus on how Artivism and art can raise awareness about the complex sub-topics of ecology, especially the climate crisis. While questioning how art and creativity can nurture and develop approaches that affect our planet and offer different perspectives, it aims to generate solutions through creative research and encourage collective actions. While the global strategic partnerships manager of the art broker Artsy platform, Anlam Arslanoğlu will moderate the panel, Heleen Blanken, the creator of the Sonar +D main installation Habitat, will be attending this panel in the same environment with her own work, which is fed by ecology. Elif Boyner, who we know for her successful entrepreneurial identity as well as her past in contemporary art, will explain how she integrates ecological approaches into her projects and will examine this topic within the balance of art/society/institution. In this discussion, Alper Derinboğaz will talk about the Geospaces project and will focus on the argument that we can find solutions to the crisis we are experiencing, if we can question where architecture stands or should stop, and only if we can make sense of complex relationship networks.

Alper Derinboğaz

Alper Derinbogaz is an architect and academic focused on seeking communal relationships between environment and spatial elements through scientific strategies. His experiments vary from large scale installations to the exhibitions and cultural institution projects, including the new City Museum nearing compilation. He is the founder of architectural practice Salon besides his studio in ITU. He studied at UCLA with Fulbright Program, where he won the Graduate Award for his master’s studies. His research has been exhibited in biennales and museums including first İstanbul Design Bienalle. He exhibited at the Koolhaas curated Venice Architecture Biennale in 2014 with his work Modalities of the Spontaneous, an in-depth study of the urban developments in relationship with geography. His projects won awards at the international architecture competitions from Songdo Library in Korea to Kaunas Science Island in Lithuania. He was selected as one of the 40 top young architects in Europe in 2019, and in Archdaily’s Best Young Practices in 2020. His works and research are recognized as “inventive” investigating the possibilities of the physical environment which he has been gathering under the roof of 'Geospaces' project since 2011.

Anlam Arslanoğlu De Coster

Anlam de Coster has over 15 years of experience in arts management and communications working with museums, art fairs, galleries, auction houses, magazines and festivals. Based in London, Anlam currently leads Global Strategic Partnerships at Artsy, the world’s leading online art marketplace. She is passionate about advising art fairs and gallery weekends on their digital transformation. Prior to joining Artsy, she was Associate Director at Reiber PR and led strategic communications campaigns for clients across arts and design including PAD London and Artcurial. Between 2015-2018, she was head of VIP Relations for art and design fairs ARTINTERNATIONAL (Istanbul) and NOMAD (Monaco & St Moritz), and acted as a VIP Adviser for FIAC. In 2011, she was appointed inaugural Development Manager of SALT, a major cultural institution in Istanbul, and then joined Istanbul Modern as Curatorial Projects Manager in 2013 where she managed large-scale museum exhibitions and public programs. In 2010, Anlam developed corporate partnerships for Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Between 2008 - 2010, she coordinated the Turkish Season in France, an ambitious cultural project co-organized by Institut français and Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts, and programmed 650 exhibitions and events across France. Anlam graduated Cum Laude from Sciences Po (Paris) in 2009 and holds an M.A. degree in Arts and Media Administration. She also studied at Galatasaray University (Istanbul) and Sorbonne University (Paris) where she earned a B.A. in Economics.

Elif Boyner

Elif, worked as a full-time artist after completing her BA in Design and Management at Parsons School of Design and a MA in Fine Arts at Central Saint Martins. In May 2017, she founded SWEATers App, an online platform that brings like-minded sports lovers together with her partner Melis Abacioglu alongside the city’s first and biggest sports festival SWEAT FEST, which becaame an annual tradition that brings the local sports community together. In November 2019, Elif and her team founded SWEATERS HUB, the meeting point of the local sports community.

Heleen Blanken

Heleen Blanken is a visual artist and lives and works in Amsterdam. She levitates across the fields of cinematography, installation art, new media, scenography and sculpture. She holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. Deeply influenced by the complex exchange between humanity and the natural environment, her artistic practice explores the different layers of our aesthetic perception of the natural world while defining traditional artistic dichotomies like the organic vs. artificial and analog vs. digital. In her work, she raises questions on how we contemplate ideas of nature. Heleen’s work has been shown internationally in curated shows at institutes such as Nxt Museum, Stedelijk Museum, Gropius Bau Berlin, La Gaîté Lyrique, Gallery Ron Mandos, Musée d’art contemporain and Ars Electronica. She has collaborated with institutes such as Naturalis, Museum für Naturkunde Berlin and the Institute for Geosciences.
